MarxTracker
by
Marx Marvelous
of
Tibetan Peach Pie Inc.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, folx, this is the first production of Tibetan Peach Pie Inc.
It may be larger then most trackers you know, but then again, i
don't believe in letting programs sit there for the greater part
of a minute whilst generating large tables. =:^)
Also, though the sound quality might not be as good as, say,
DigiComposer, i haven't unpacked that yet. =;^) And the sound
quality is CERTAINLY better than the ABK-BBS soundtrackers.
So... MarxTracker. You know the routine... double-click the
MARXTRKR.TTP and enter the module name. Press space to exit.
Two small problems so far... looping doesn't work QUITE right
yet, and the pitch is just a hair flat... and it doesn't YET
support 15-instrument modules.
Also, be sure you run this in 60Hz. I haven't made it quite
perfect as regards tempo yet, and i don't plan on ever doing a
50Hz version of this... though i might, if i receive enough
love mail for it... =;^)
As the last warning, 15-instrument modules will end up sounding
like shit. This is because a few pointers are different with
15-instrument mods than with 31-instrument mods.
When i finally add support for these types of mods, it will
not be auto-keying; ie. you must specify on the command line
that it is a 15-voice mod. "There will be no further
information until there is." -Amanda Ziller's .plan file
Meantime you can load this into any decent 31-instrument tracker
editor and save it back out again, and that should convert it
into a 31-instrument mod. Convertor program may be coming soon,
depending on demand.
The code is there right now for switching channels on and off
with keys 1-4, but said code isn't implemented yet (yes, time
is THAT TIGHT!)... currently, when said code is inserted, the
machine doesn't have time to scan for the spacebar, or do the
cool screen-inversion effect. So.... not yet on this either.
As for the player itself, it's basically a slightly tweaked
ProTracker player (as created by Lars Hamre/Amiga Freelancers),
and all the interrupt handling was done by Anders Nilsson (and
ripped mercilessly from the TCB Tracker player, whose mods, by
the way, are incompatible with anything serious in the way of
tracker stuff). The sound table i ripped from Karl Anders
0ygard's "Esion XLI" pre-release demo. About all that was
truly mine was the Paulina routine.
Before packing, MarxTracker was 42k long, and the Paulina takes
up an ungodly amount of CPU time, so believe me, you don't WANT
the source. =:^) As i remember, the number was 90% or so taken
by the Paulina.... ouch. =;^)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This program is SourceWare... if you like it, send us some source
to some of your code. And we're willing to swap... mail us somewhere
ahead of time and tell us what it is you wanna swap and what it is
you want for it.
At TPPI we're working on a megademo that hopefully will be able to
boot and run both on Amigas and ST's, off the same disk, if that's
possible... =;^) No title yet, though we're kicking around a few
at this point. Any suggestions that you're too lazy or too inept to
code yerself, just send 'em our way and we'll see what we can do
about sticking your name in a scrolltext somewhere. =:^)
I can be reached thusly:
I-net mail
jeanluc@shadowfax.knox.tn.us
Snail
(no chance you're gettin' my street address)
BBS
Marx Marvelous - The Beta Test BBS - (805)528-6829 - Atari ST - a few megs
(if i remember my password... please, i'd rather you did netmail =:^) )
Be sure to notify me by any of these addresses if something blows up
or doesn't sound exactly right, and be sure to tell us what mod it is
you're playing...
--------------------------------------------------------------------
And now... grovelings and scrapings to: Anders Nilsson (shitty tracker,
d00d), Karl Anders 0ygard, Dr.SATAN of Empire (nice tracker editor),
STratoHAK and any other future members of TPPI, Lars "Zap" Hamre, uhm,
who else?.... AEnigmatica (nice trackerplayer... mind if i borrow it
for the next version?), and the Carebears (nice no-border scrolling...
and damned if i can figure out how to nuke the left and right borders.
hint please?).
On a more personal note, thanks to: Amanda Ziller (it's her handle);
Amanda "Angel Heart" Dawson (for what little it was, she started me
coding.... damned shame she's a PC user... and an ex... *sigh*);
Yvette Yong (just some strange local chick); Ryan Matteson (the
inventor of the phrase "More Vette per pound"; Chris Ambler (awww,
c'mon Uncle Fubar, lemme have my SLIP connect!... oh yeah, look for
"dionysus.b0rd.com" real soon like); David Battle (thank god for
DCA!); and anyone who reads Tom Robbins or Alan Watts.
Miscellaneous compu-realm thanxes: Viper (ST Sorcery-135-(805)489-2026),
Mantronix (Beta Test-100-(805)528-6829), Greg "Truk" Graham (Moe's Tavern-
?-(805)546-9138, i THINK...), Chris Ambler (again) (FUBAR-none-
(805)54-FUBAR), Jonathan Hunter (the little punt with the STe...
damndamndamnamanda!), Paul Lewis (the d00d who sold me this thang in
the first place), and Matthew Holliman (the d00d who turned me on to
some neat files about LZW coding).
Musical thanks to: METALLICA!, They Might Be Giants, The Pursuit Of
Happiness, Anthrax, Dark Angel (killer band! BUY THIS!), Fleetwood
Mac, Jean-michel Jarre' (kinda par for the course for us computer
types, ain't it), The Dead Milkmen, The Connells, and all them women
of Bulgaria with them pretty-voiced folk songs.
Also thanks to most Tracker mosule composers, with the exception of
whoever put together that shitty version of Oxygene (part II), and
double-thanks to (is it) Moby (whoever it was composed "Klisje paa
klisje".... and the music from the Substance demo.... if STrato has
anything to say about it, it will be in a mod before long! Check
an FTP archive or BBS near you!)
And finally, greetings to all who 1) read this far, and 2) have
intentions of running MARXTRKR.TTP more than once.
